AB InBev Tells Drinkers to Pace Themselves, Then Sells Them Four Different Beers to Do It
The brewer's new global platform, built with Anomaly, puts Corona, Budweiser, Michelob Ultra, and Stella Artois's zero- and low-alcohol lines into everyday social moments, betting that moderation can be sold as fun instead of restriction.
AB InBev has a category problem most beverage giants would love to have: a growing slice of its business is beer nobody gets drunk on. The company's new global platform, "Choose Moderation. Choose Beer," built with agency Anomaly, is the clearest signal yet that the no- and low-alcohol tier has graduated from side hustle to headline act, with the campaign's 1-minute-26-second film placing Corona, Budweiser, Michelob Ultra, and Stella Artois, all in their lighter forms, inside the kind of everyday social moments the category usually gets left out of.
The pitch, in the brand's own words, is that you can "choose both and really lean in," pairing a low-ABV pour with the rest of your life rather than treating it as the consolation prize. Lines like "choose to have fun and make the morning run" do the heavy lifting, positioning moderation as a feature of a good time rather than an admission that the good time got out of hand. It's a tonal tightrope: sell abstinence-adjacent beer without sounding like a wellness brand, and without implying the full-strength stuff on the shelf right next to it is suddenly the irresponsible choice.
The category argument is the one worth watching. When the world's largest brewer puts its four biggest global names behind a shared moderation message instead of a shared flavor message, it's telling retailers and investors that the no/low tier isn't a hedge against decline anymore, it's where the growth is expected to come from. Whether the "choose both" framing actually gets a full-strength drinker to reach for the zero-proof can is the only metric that will matter once the ad stops running.
