Akris Turns a Dead Painter's Canvas Into a Blazer, Exposed Seams and All

Albert Kriemler built his Spring/Summer 2027 collection around Austrian painter Martha Jungwirth's abstract expressionism, leaving every seam, ribbon, and frayed edge visible on purpose.

Most designers hide their process. Albert Kriemler, at Akris, spent Spring/Summer 2027 showing his. The Swiss house's Paris presentation translated Austrian painter Martha Jungwirth's abstract expressionism from canvas to cloth, with hand-applied ribbons, exposed seams, reversed jacquards, and frayed laser-cut fringe standing in for brushstrokes.

The palette stuck close to the source material, too, with bold reds, pinks, and violets that Kriemler described as "felt colors" rather than anything chasing a trend. Aprons showed up throughout the collection, a nod to both Jungwirth's studio practice and to Akris's own history with founder Alice Kriemler's 1950s designs. A red wool blazer with generous volume and a crimson knit column dress anchored the more wearable end of the range.

Kriemler summed up the idea as "getting dressed as an intuitive act," which is a tidy way of saying the clothes are supposed to mean something to the person wearing them, not just look good in a show note. It is a quieter pitch than most of what rolled down Paris runways this week, and that is precisely the point.
