Albertsons Hires The Fresh Market's Emily Turner To Run Enterprise Marketing
The supermarket group has named a specialty-grocery marketer as SVP and chief marketing officer, a signal about where it thinks growth in the channel now sits.
Albertsons has appointed Emily Turner, previously a top executive at specialty grocer The Fresh Market, as senior vice president and chief marketing officer. She began in the role this week and will lead enterprise marketing strategy across the retailer's banners.
The hire reads as a deliberate import of specialty-grocery thinking into a mainstream chain. Conventional supermarkets have spent the past two years defending trips against discounters on one side and premium formats on the other, and marketing leadership is increasingly expected to differentiate on own-brand, fresh and loyalty rather than price alone.
Albertsons operates a large banner portfolio, which makes enterprise-level marketing an exercise in balancing local identity against national efficiency — the kind of remit where CMO tenure is often short.
Turner's brief will be judged on whether she can build a coherent brand story across banners without flattening the regional equity that keeps shoppers loyal.
