Boston Beer Hires a Data Marketer to Sell Samuel Adams
Allison Stransky joins the brewer from Samsung Electronics America, bringing a big-data and AI background to a beer portfolio fighting for share in a flat category.

The Boston Beer Company has named Allison Stransky as chief marketing officer, effective October 12, and the résumé says as much about the assignment as the title does.
Stransky arrives from Samsung Electronics America, where her work centered on applications of big data and artificial intelligence. At Boston Beer she will lead brand management, digital and social media, experiential marketing, and connected commerce, reporting to founder, president, and chief executive Jim Koch.
The portfolio she inherits is the story. Samuel Adams remains the company's namesake, but growth in recent years has come from hard seltzer and flavored malt beverages rather than craft beer, in a total alcohol category where volumes have gone sideways and younger drinkers are reallocating spend entirely.
Hiring a technology marketer into a beer company is a specific bet: that the next increment of share comes from better targeting, retail media, and commerce plumbing rather than from another brewer's-pride film. Connected commerce sitting inside the CMO remit is the clearest signal of that.
The risk is the one every heritage brand runs when it brings in an outsider. Samuel Adams was built on founder story and taste credibility, and those do not respond well to optimization. The job is to make the data engine work without sanding the character off the thing it is selling.
Stransky will find out quickly which half of that sentence her board actually cares about.
