CIMB Reclaims the Colour Malaysians Are Taught to Fear
A regional brand film from Chariot Agency turns red — the colour of warning — into the bank's case for momentum.
Every bank claims progress. CIMB picked a fight with a colour to prove it.
The Malaysian banking group launched "Moving You Forward," a regional brand platform introduced through a film created by Chariot Agency. The film's premise: Malaysians are raised to read red as caution, warning and danger — the stop light, the warning label, the red pen — and the bank's own red can be reframed as the colour of forward motion.
It is a smart use of an asset the brand already owns. Banks across Southeast Asia are visually interchangeable at a glance, and colour is one of the few identity elements a challenger cannot copy without looking derivative. Building the story on the brand's existing red rather than a new design system means the platform starts recognisable on day one.
The strategic tell is "regional." CIMB operates across Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, markets where a single message usually collapses into four local campaigns. A visual idea travels further than a tagline, which is likely why the colour came first and the copy second.
What it still needs is product proof. "Moving You Forward" is a promise about speed and access; customers will test it at an app login screen, not in a brand film. The launch buys attention. The queue at the branch decides whether it holds.
