Duolingo buys animation studio Animade to keep its mascot in-house
The language app is acquiring the London studio behind much of its motion work, treating character animation as core infrastructure.

Duolingo has acquired Animade, the London animation studio whose motion design helped shape the app's visual character work, bringing that capability in-house.
Few brands have converted a mascot into a distribution channel as effectively as Duolingo has with Duo, where animation quality is not decoration but the product's comic timing. Owning the studio secures both craft consistency and velocity as the brand's output moves faster than a typical agency cycle allows.
It also signals a broader shift: as short-form volume rises, more brands are buying creative capacity rather than briefing it out.
