Foot Locker Bets the Next Era of "Hoops Lives Here" on a Rookie Who Hasn't Played a Game Yet
The retailer's basketball platform returns for the 2026-27 NBA season with Cooper Flagg behind the counter, a Knicks activation blocks from Madison Square Garden, and a New Balance assist.

Foot Locker kicked off the 2026-27 NBA season with the next chapter of its "Hoops Lives Here" platform, and the chapter stars Cooper Flagg, the rookie everyone was arguing about before he played a single regular-season minute. The 30-second spot follows Flagg behind the counter at a Foot Locker store, working alongside the brand's Stripers to stock new New Balance releases and lacing up the 950s himself, which is the retail equivalent of hiring the quarterback to also run the pro shop.
The campaign leans on more than one spot. Foot Locker is running a one-day pop-up called Rings 'N' Things blocks from Madison Square Garden to mark the New York Knicks' championship ring ceremony, and the retailer is sticking around as an Associate Sponsor of the NBA HBCU Classic at All-Star 2027. Brett O'Brien, Foot Locker's chief marketing officer, calls the company basketball's longtime home and Flagg the face of the sport's next generation, which is a lot of symbolism to load onto a player who is still finding his legs in the league.
That's precisely the bet retail has made on NBA rookies for years: sign the hype before the stats catch up, and let the jersey sales do the talking regardless. Foot Locker has the NBA marketing partnership, the Knicks activation, and the New Balance tie-in all pointed at one 19-year-old's shoulders. If Flagg's rookie season goes sideways, so does a campaign built entirely on his trajectory.
