Hidden Valley Turns Ranch Dressing Black for Halloween, and the Bottle Glows in the Dark

Hidden Valley is releasing its first seasonal product in the brand's history: Spooky Ranch, a black version of its classic dressing packaged in a bottle that glows in the dark. The company says the black hue comes from fruit juice and cocoa rather than artificial dye, layered over the same buttermilk, herb, and spice base fans already know, so the effect is meant to be visual rather than a flavor change. Hidden Valley is positioning it for Halloween snack boards, wings, pizza, fries, sandwiches, and vegetables.

It is a low-lift way for a legacy condiment brand to earn a seasonal news cycle without reformulating anything that matters to the actual taste. Turning the product black is the kind of stunt that photographs well on a shelf and travels well online, and the glow-in-the-dark bottle gives retailers and shoppers alike a reason to post about a bottle of ranch, which is not usually a sentence anyone says.

Ranch has spent the last several years quietly becoming a personality in its own right, from wing sauce to a Gen Z condiment-of-everything. A haunted, glowing bottle is Hidden Valley leaning all the way into that reputation instead of fighting it.
