Holiday Inn Express Put Breakfast Inside a Pillow
IHG's value brand and earned-first shop Enthral turned free hot breakfast into a product stunt guests can sleep on.

Free breakfast is the most advertised and least memorable promise in mid-market hotels. Holiday Inn Express decided to make people hear it.
The IHG brand launched The Breakfast Pillow with earned-first agency Enthral, a pillow that plays the sounds of the brand's free hot breakfast — the sizzle, the pour, the pancake machine — to guests in bed.
It is a stunt, and it knows it. But it works on the one asset the brand actually owns. Every competitor claims comfort; only a handful build their whole proposition on breakfast, and turning that into a sensory object is a cheaper route to fame than another rate-led spot.
Earned-first briefs live or die on whether the idea survives a headline without the media budget. A pillow that smells like nothing and sounds like bacon clears that bar.
The harder question for IHG is follow-through. Stunts create a spike; the brand still needs the breakfast itself to be the reason anyone books twice.
