Liquid Death Wants to Run Its Marketing Team on Two People and a Pile of AI
The canned-water brand that built its identity mocking tech bros is using AI to flatten its own org chart, and its marketing chief says that's the whole point.

Liquid Death has spent years building a brand on ads that mock AI data centers and startup culture. Behind the scenes, though, the billion-dollar canned water company is leaning hard on AI to run its own marketing operation leaner than its size would suggest. Speaking at an Advertising Week New York panel, chief media and digital commerce officer Benoit Vatere said the goal is simple: stay "lean and mean" and stop burning money on media that isn't working.
The brand built its setup with agency Power Digital Marketing, which runs a three-part AI system: an intelligence layer called Iris, an operating system called Omega, and a creative-intelligence layer called Creative Affinity. Liquid Death has already pushed 17 iterations of Omega in three weeks of fine-tuning, and campaign reviews that used to happen weekly now happen daily.
Power Digital CEO Jeff Mason lays out a three-stage maturity ladder: most brands are still "AI-curious," poking at ChatGPT and Claude; the next step is "AI-assisted," building a bespoke intelligence layer; and the top is "AI-native," where an orchestration layer lets teams work inside custom tools. Vatere's stated ambition gives away where Liquid Death thinks it's headed: run a sizable media budget with only two people on the inside. For a brand that made its name roasting Silicon Valley's self-importance, outsourcing its own headcount to software is either the ultimate bit or the most honest thing it's ever said out loud.
