Marimekko Puts Its Floral Prints on a Sneaker Built to Look Unbranded

Marimekko and VEJA announced a limited-edition collaboration on September 22, pairing the Finnish design house's Popkorni print, a paper-cut floral pattern by artist Antti Kekki, with VEJA's Salar and Small Canary silhouettes for adults and kids.

It is a pairing of two brands that have built entire identities on refusing to do what the category usually does: Marimekko turned bold prints into a Finnish design export, and VEJA turned "we will tell you exactly what this shoe is made of" into a sneaker brand people actually trust. "The collaboration combines joy and functionality with Marimekko's playful Popkorni print interpreted in VEJA's iconic sneaker styles," said Rebekka Bay, Marimekko's creative director.

The collection lands November 12, which means this is a two-month tease dressed up as a September announcement, a very on-brand move for two companies that would rather talk about craftsmanship than urgency. VEJA art director Caroline Bulliot Krivanek put the shared logic plainly: "We share the same deep care for the human behind every product, refined materials, and craftsmanship." No hype-drop countdown clock required.
