Marsh Rebuilt Its Brand Around One Word: Resilience

Most corporate rebrands are decoration. Marsh is arguing its was plumbing.

Speaking on Thursday, Kerri Holmes, chief marketing officer for India, the Middle East and Africa at Marsh, framed the broker's brand transformation as a repositioning around resilience rather than a visual refresh — new clarity on what the firm sells, then design in service of it.

That distinction is doing real work in the risk category. Broking has spent a decade competing on scale and placement, which is invisible to a client until something goes wrong. Resilience is a promise a chief financial officer can act on before the loss, and it happens to be the language governments and regulators in the region are already using.

For Marsh McLennan, the parent group, regional relevance is the harder half. A global positioning has to survive translation into markets where risk means climate exposure in one place and political volatility in another, and where the buyer is often a state-linked enterprise rather than a corporate insurance manager.

The competitive frame is tight. Aon has spent years on "better decisions" and WTW on perspective; all three are effectively claiming the same territory of foresight. Whoever proves it with specifics rather than adjectives wins the category.

The test of a repositioning like this is not the launch film. It is whether the sales conversation changes.
