Tommy Hilfiger takes its seat back on the New York calendar
After time away, the preppy heavyweight showed at New York Fashion Week on September 12, in a week built around comebacks.

Tommy Hilfiger is back on the New York Fashion Week schedule, and the calendar noticed. The brand showed on September 12, the same day Monse returned to the official lineup, in a week that stupidDOPE's roundup organized around comebacks, debuts, and first-time participants.
A slot on the official schedule buys a heritage brand more than a runway. It buys a week of press, retail attention, and proof that the label still has a point of view. Nothing we found explains why Tommy Hilfiger chose this season to return, so the reasons stay a guess.
The lineup around it makes the case. Diane von Furstenberg put new artistic director Henry Zankov on stage September 10. Calvin Klein and Tory Burch showed September 14, and Thom Browne closed the week September 15 as CFDA chairman. American sportswear had a full room, and a preppy heavyweight sitting it out would have looked like an empty chair.
The real test comes next season. A comeback show is an announcement. A second one is a strategy.
