Adam Brody Is The Rake's Cover Star, and Ralph Lauren Got the Best Look in the Issue
Issue 108 puts the "Nobody Wants This" star in Purple Label wool and cashmere, and the result reads more Gregory Peck than Seth Cohen.

Adam Brody is the cover star of The Rake's Issue 108, "Everybody Wants Him," shot by Brian Bowen Smith with styling from Ilaria Urbinati. Among a lineup that also pulls from Brunello Cucinelli, Tom Ford, Brooks Brothers, Canali, and Loro Piana, the standout look is credited to Ralph Lauren's Purple Label: a wool coat over a wool polo, pleat-front wool trousers, a cashmere cable-knit jumper, leather monkstrap shoes, and a leather belt, finished with an IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar.
It's a smart pairing. Purple Label has spent years positioning itself as the version of Ralph Lauren wealthy men actually wear rather than just photograph well in, and Brody, mid-career resurgence on "Nobody Wants This," is exactly the kind of lived-in, slightly rumpled leading man the line is built around. He doesn't play a fashion plate on screen, which is precisely why the tailoring reads as credible instead of costume.
The interview digs into Brody's unglamorous rise: shifts at Blockbuster in San Diego, a barely-attended year at MiraCosta College, a move to Los Angeles at 19 on a self-imposed one-year deadline. He's candid about "The O.C." too: "The O.C. didn't feel like my big break to me," he says, having already worked alongside peers who were landing leads first. For a magazine built on the idea that real style comes from men who aren't performing it, that's about as on-message as a cover story gets.
