Ikea Puts a Thumbstick in Your Living Room
Nine pieces, an Xbox 25th-anniversary hook and a D-pad cushion: the YXSTABY collection is brand licensing designed to stay in the room after the console is off.

Ikea and Xbox unveiled the full YXSTABY collection at Gamescom, a nine-piece gaming furniture and accessories range co-designed by teams at both companies and timed to the 25th anniversary of the first Xbox console.
The headline items are the ones built for a photograph: a green stool modelled on a controller thumbstick at $49.99, a D-pad-shaped cushion, and a 13-inch stainless steel D-pad platter at $14.99. The rest of the line is quieter — a rollable TV stand, a laptop support with storage at $29.99, a side table, a lounge chair and a multi-functional toolbox — which Ikea says are designed to "solve the small, familiar challenges that can come with playing at home."
That split is the strategy. Microsoft gets brand presence in a room that stays furnished long after a marketing beat ends, and Ikea gets a franchise fanbase without diluting its own design language. Merchandise comes off; a lounge chair does not.
The collection lands in Ikea stores on 1 October and online on 30 November, riding a run of Xbox anniversary activity that also includes a 25th Anniversary Collection now open for pre-order.
It is also a template worth watching. Licensed gaming furniture has largely been the province of specialist chair brands; a mass-market retailer putting controller geometry into everyday household objects moves the category from gamer-gear into home decor — with the price ladder to match.
