Most heritage rebrands strip things away. Imperial Leather just put them back.

The identity refresh, revealed on Sunday and created by Brandon Consultants for owner PZ Cussons, returns the crown to its place above the name, reinstates the red ribbon and re-cuts the wordmark denser and brighter. The previous look — thinner letterforms, a pale label, fine decorative detail and the "Master Perfumers Since 1921" line — had drifted toward fragrance-aisle minimalism, and with it lost the shelf-shout that made the brand legible from three metres away.

Imperial Leather sells soap, shower gels, bath products and Foamburst, categories where own-label competition is brutal and recognition happens in under a second. That is the commercial logic here: distinctive assets, not taste. The crown and ribbon are the brand''s memory structures, and a decade of tasteful softening had been slowly writing them off.

It is also a bet on the same nostalgia current running through personal care and grocery — a shopper who grew up with the crown reads it as reassurance, while a newer buyer simply reads it as premium. Rivals including Dove and Radox have gone the other way with flatter, cleaner systems, which makes a maximalist British bath brand unusually easy to spot.

New packaging rolls out across the range, with the refreshed marque leading in-store and online.
