adidas Canada Bets Its “You Got This” Campaign on an 18-Year-Old Who Hasn't Played a Full NHL Season Yet

adidas Canada introduced its newest brand ambassador on Wednesday, and he is eighteen years old, has played about a month of professional hockey, and already carries the weight of a generational-prospect label. The brand announced a multi-year partnership with Toronto Maple Leafs rookie Gavin McKenna, the first overall pick in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, who will appear in upcoming adidas campaigns across Canada, including the brand's "You Got This" platform.

McKenna debuted with the Toronto Maple Leafs in September, and the hype arrived well before the box scores did. Kelly Graham, adidas Canada's head of marketing, called him "one of the most exciting players to enter the NHL in years," which is the kind of line brands usually save for someone with a few seasons on the resume, not a few weeks.

The bet is straightforward: sign the face of Canadian hockey's next decade before the price goes up, and let the campaign grow into the player rather than the other way around. McKenna, for his part, called joining the brand "an honor" and said the past year has felt like "a series of dreams coming true." For adidas, the dream is simpler. It just needs him to keep playing like the first pick he was.
