Cheerios and Ziploc Finally Solve the One Problem Every Cereal Box Has Had Since 1941

Cheerios and Ziploc launched Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal on October 27, putting a resealable bag inside a conventional cereal box for the first time. The bag opens partway across the top to form a pour spout, then zips back shut to keep the cereal fresh, borrowing Ziploc's resealable technology wholesale rather than approximating it with a flimsier store-brand fix.

General Mills says this is less a nice-to-have than a demand it has been fielding for years: the companies get hundreds of thousands of consumer requests, comments, and reactions annually about resealing cereal, and a December 2025 Suzy survey found that 90% of cereal eaters already take extra steps to keep a box fresh, whether that's folding the bag, clipping it, or dumping the whole thing into a separate container. Cheerios VP and business unit director Emilie Knox called it a fix for "a small, everyday cereal frustration," which is corporate-speak for "we read the Reddit threads."

The rollout starts narrow and practical: original Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios, exclusively at Walmart.com, made in Buffalo, New York, where Cheerios has been produced since 1941. A nationwide retail rollout is planned for the coming months. It's a modest-sounding packaging tweak attached to the best-selling cereal brand in the country by dollar sales, which means if PantrySeal actually works the way the demo photos suggest, every other cereal maker is about to have an extremely annoying category-wide problem.
