Samsung puts iPhone loyalty on the therapist's couch
"Switchers" seats real-life pairs — reality TV names and NFL veterans among them — with a psychologist to talk through why leaving a phone brand feels like a breakup, and hands Samsung a softer argument for its Galaxy Z foldables.

Samsung has decided the obstacle between it and a few million American upgrades is not a feature gap. It is feelings.
The company debuted "Switchers," a campaign that stages therapy-style conversations about why people stay with a smartphone brand long after it stopped being the right fit. In the spots, a psychologist sits down with pairs who have real relationships — pop culture personalities Ciara Miller and Dylan Efron, reality television fan favorites Carl Schmidt and Aniya Harvey, and football veterans Nick Foles and Clay Matthews — and unpacks the emotional, faintly absurd side of considering a new phone.
"There's something very human about sticking with what feels familiar, even when another option might better fit our needs," the campaign's psychologist says. "Curiosity doesn't mean you're unhappy or disloyal. It simply means you're willing to explore what else might be out there. Often, that's the first step toward meaningful change."
The framing does careful work. Switch messaging usually reads as an attack on the customer's past judgment, which is a hard sell in a category where the competing product is also good. Recasting the decision as permission to be curious lets Samsung argue against Apple without insulting anybody who bought one.
The proof points sit behind the comedy. Samsung says 30% of Galaxy Z Flip8 buyers have come from a competing smartphone brand since launch, and that both Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra are drawing a higher share of competitive switchers than Z Fold7, at 23% and 12% of buyers respectively. Foldables, in other words, are the company's most persuasive reason for anyone to reconsider — the one thing on the shelf that does not have an obvious equivalent in the other ecosystem.
The current Galaxy Z line gives the campaign three doors: Z Fold8 Ultra for productivity, Z Fold8 for viewing, and Z Flip8 for compact creativity. Smart Switch, the company's transfer app, handles the practical objection by carrying contacts, photos, videos, messages, apps, and settings across from iOS or Android, with RCS messaging once the new device is set up.
It is a notably patient piece of positioning for a hardware launch cycle. Samsung is not claiming the switch is easy — it is claiming the hesitation is normal, then removing the friction that makes hesitation feel wise.
