Interrail Kills Its Own Second Brand
The Eurail Pass becomes the Interrail Pass under a single global platform, "The Interrail Effect," built by WE ARE Pi with 30 creators riding the network.
For decades, Interrail sold the same rail pass under two names: Interrail for people living in Europe, Eurail for everyone else. That ends now.
Interrail B.V., the Dutch company behind the pass, has launched a global brand platform called "The Interrail Effect," and folded Eurail into it. From here, the Eurail Pass is rebranded as an Interrail Pass, unifying one product under one name for the first time.
The platform was co-created by creative agency WE ARE Pi and social agency Butterfly Effect, and is the agency's first work since being appointed to the brand and creative account in April. The proposition moves past destination marketing: the argument is that rail travel changes how you see the world, and yourself, rather than simply delivering you somewhere.
Supporting it is a creator- and community-first campaign, "The Interrail Diaries," with 30 creators traveling across Europe and documenting the trips. For a product whose best advertising has always been word of mouth from the person who just got back, that is less an influencer buy than a distribution strategy.
The unglamorous win here is operational. Two brands for one product means two sets of media, two search footprints, two loyalty conversations, and a permanent tax on every euro of awareness spend. Consolidating means every campaign now compounds instead of splitting.
Retiring a name with that much recognition outside Europe is the price. Judging by the launch, Interrail decided one strong brand beats two familiar ones.
